If you are being told that you snore, snort and gasp, if you have disrupted sleep or are sleepy during the day, and you are overweight or obese, an at-home sleep apnea test may be very appropriate. Sound familiar? You could have obstructive sleep apnea.
There are a number of factors that increase risk, including having a small upper airway (or large tongue, tonsils or uvula), being overweight, having a recessed chin, small jaw or a large overbite, a large neck size (17 inches or greater in a man, or 16 inches or greater in a woman), smoking and alcohol use, being age 40 or older, and ethnicity (African-Americans, Pacific-Islanders and Hispanics). Also, OSA seems to run in some families, suggesting a possible genetic basis.
Sleep apnea can cause excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating on tasks such as driving and remaining focused at meetings (fatal car accidents are increased seven fold!), morning and daytime headaches, generalized irritability, impaired emotional functioning, sleep disordered breaking in childhood may be instrumental in delaying or damaging cognitive development.
As many as 4% of American men, 2% of all women, 3% of children, and as many as 20% to 30% of adults older than 60 develop sleep apnea.
If sleep apnea remains untreated, other health conditions may emerge or current health problems may heighten including but not limited to high blood pressure, heart disease, heart attack, heart failure, stroke, diabetes, depression, reflux disease (GERD), atherosclerosis, gestational diabetes, sexual dysfunction.
A sleep test is meant to evaluate a patient for sleep apnea, and it monitors breathing parameters, not the sleep itself. The sleep test won’t analyze how long you’re in light or deep sleep. Instead, it will measure pauses in and absence of breathing, how much effort it takes to breathe and whether your breathing is shallow.
WatchPAT is an innovative diagnostic Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT) that utilizes the peripheral arterial signal (PAT). It measures up to 7 channels (PAT signal, heart rate, oximetry, actigraphy, body position, snoring, and chest motion) via three points of contact. Within one minute post-study, the raw data is downloaded and auto-scored identifying all types of apnea events. WatchPAT provides AHI, AHIc, RDI, and ODI based upon True Sleep Time and Sleep Staging. WatchPAT is clinically validated with an 89% correlation to PSG1. The PAT signal was included in the 2017 AASM Clinical Practice Guidelines as technically adequate.
WatchPAT has been clinically proven to detect all types of apnea events. The Central PLUS Module enables specific identification of Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) and Percent of Sleep Time with Cheyne-Stokes Respiration.
WatchPAT ONE measures 7 channels (PAT signal, heart rate, oximetry, actigraphy, body position, snoring and chest motion) via three points of contact. It’s 3 points of contact delivers 98% study success rate without compromising diagnostic capability.
The length of time the test takes varies from person to person. You put the WatchPAT on when you go to bed and it is removed when you wake in the morning.
You do not need a prescription to order your WatchPAT ONE! Just add it to the cart, purchase, and you’re good to go!

WatchPAT’s clinically validated Sleep Architecture provides information on sleep staging including sleep efficiency, sleep latency and REM latency 2-3. It also provides the added value of detecting REM related sleep apnea with REM and non-REM AHI.
WatchPAT ONE is a disposable unit and can be thrown away after use. No return shipments, no cleaning, no downloading or charging! No infection risk! Hassle free!
